45: The Coconut Climber

CHAPTER 45: The Coconut Climber

QUOTE: "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all." — Helen Keller

LESSON: Adapting to unpredictable situations

SYNOPSIS: In December 2015, I set out to begin a new chapter in Wellington, New Zealand, with Emilie by my side. Olivier chose to return to Panama to repeat grade ten, longing to reunite with his friends. Before reaching our destination, I couldn’t resist a stopover in Fiji, while Emilie was impatient to settle into her new school, I booked a stay at a beach resort and discovereed the Coconut Climber who scaled towering trees to harvest coconuts. Though the stopover was filled with moments of delight, it also tested my patience. A late taxi, a broken-down car, and a chaotic airport morning left me scrambling to retrieve our luggage and make our flight. I dealt with unexpected hurdles, including surprise baggage fees and even an accidental punch to the jaw during the frenzy. Through it all, Emilie remained a steady observer, quietly watching me navigate the chaos.
