52: Rupert, My Swedish Travel Companion

CHAPTER 52: Rupert, My Swedish Travel Companion

QUOTE: "If we were meant to stay in one place, we’d have roots instead of feet." — Rachel Wolchin

LESSON: Moving Forward and Embracing Change

SYNOPSIS: In September 2018, as Jim prepared to leave Wellington for Auckland, I began planning a solo road trip around New Zealand's South Island. With Jim’s help, I purchased a green Volvo station wagon and fondly named Rupert. The final days in Wellington were filled with goodbyes and preparations, from dinners in the communal kitchen to trips to the Salvation Army to donate possessions. Emilie decided to stay behind with friends and continue working, while I set off on the ferry to the South Island. As I crossed the Cook Strait, the stunning Marlborough Sounds came into view, offering a moment of reflection on the three years spent in New Zealand and a sense of purpose for the travels ahead. With Rupert as my companion, I began the next chapter of my journey, documenting it through Tai Chi travel videos to share with the world.
